troyer on the scales

Looking good Dan, even if the sticker is a little garish.

CIA 1983 Men's A team

I loved those outfits. (I'm second in line.)

CIA A Team 1984

Arnold, Tom, Kurt, Mike, Ted and Terry (driver) might not agree. Those shorts were way too short.

treasure chest of speed

details

Still some xootr based wheels in use at derby but the trend towards a custom hub is growing and the advantage of running small is catching on. I believe these are (from left to right):

wheel type, car, time
Xootr hub with ??,Purden, 27.551
new small 'pka' wheel, Barr/Osborne, 27.000
ze wheel ??, not clear which car, ??
xootr hub, wargo, 27.280
original size 'pka' wheel, Albertoni, 27.137
workmaster (a plastic xootr, not what he ran on the car).

world record

Record Setter: 26.844

In round one, heat 5, Sheri Lazowski of Clean Sheet/ Sigma Nu racing, broke the new record with a scorching 26.844. This bettered the time for this car by 0.159 seconds (~8 feet or 1 car length) over the same car’s 2009 3rd place finish. This is also an improvement of 0.080 sec over the 2009 record. (~ 52 inches). The final margin of victory was a tiny 0.005 sec (~3.3 inches). 3rd place was another 0.012 sec back (~7.9 inches). The top 3 were within a foot of each other at the finish. Very close.

3rd place

Record Breaker: 26.861

This car broke and held the record (26.861 sec) for the time it took to complete 5 heats in round one. Thus, a Sigma Nu tradition continues.

The zoo held the record for a few minutes in 1981 before giving it up to CIA and again in 1985, before a "timing error" was found that trimmed off just enough time to give it back to PKA.

This time, there is a happier ending as the car that took the record away was also from our team.
