Auction Site Stress Test : Part 2, The electric boogaloo!

Postby aitong » Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:11 pm

Hey everyone - I think we've fixed most of the bugs that got reported last night with the auction system. If you have some time, please try the auction site again ( url below ), and this time...

* Please use Firefox - I can't be sure if the site works with other browsers
* The maximum allowed bid is 3500 bucks, so try and make your bids more realistic

The url is http://www.cmubuggy.org/2010auction/login.html - let me know if the bugs you saw yesterday are fixed, and if you find any new ones, please tell me

* Which auction you were in
* Whether you were making a max bid or an immediate bid
* The steps you went through to get to the bug

Thanks!

We should reevaluate our Firefox-only stance. 60% of visitors are using another browser (actually a surprisingly even split between Safari/Chrome/IE).

What kind of crazy Javascript/CSS are you using that's Firefox specific?

So newer bids will show up without you having to hit reload

should people be able to outbid themselves? ie:

http://www.cmubuggy.org/2010auction/auc ... e3=SigNu-C

$17 was bid by DeVos on 04/07/2010 00:56:53
$16 was bid by DeVos on 04/07/2010 00:56:22

Probably not, but because of how things work under the hood, it would not be super easy to fix, and I think it's reasonable to assume that people won't bid against themselves.

Clearly you haven't met enough of the people who use this site.

This is obvious to most of us, but in case someone has their browser set to High security, the site won't work. Maybe the intro could use a "Cookies and javascript are kinda important."

Chrome looked and worked as well as Firefox so far.

In the finals heat there are only 2 bidders right now - the rules say the top 5 bidders get to pick ... but I can't enter a bid that is lower than the top bid ... even if I only to be one of the 5 for the lowest possible price ...
