Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year we’ve been waiting for since that time last year: spring rolls are here! Sort of.

Wintry weather on Saturday had Buggies in hibernation for one extra day this past weekend. By Sunday the temperatures had warmed just enough to coax 6 teams out to the course. The first roll was in a chilly 21F, but by the end of practices it was a balmy 24F. Our on-scene reporter relayed that it was “quite chilly if you didn’t have a wind breaker.” So, take that as you will.

In Attendance

Org Sunday
Apex Phoenix
CIA Emperor, Equinox
Fringe Blueshift, Bumper, Boson, Bolt

Observations (Sunday Gallery)

Despite a few warm days in the previous week, a stubborn patch of ice remained on Hill 2. Sweepstakes took great effort to block off the spot and requested/warned drivers to stay outside of the coned area. To deal with the temperatures and low turnout, Sweepstakes instituted 5-minute breaks into the schedule. Between the chill and ice, the teams made it nearly through 5 full rounds.

With only 5 teams out and rolling, there isn’t too much to report on. The cold weather kept everyone to minimal speeds, although PiKA did manage two successful pass tests (Cliodhna and Banshee) starting with their second roll of the day. Fringe’s Bolt was giving a little cause for concern making some “funny” (see: wobbly/rubbing) wheel noises. Towards the end of the day, the driver was also getting quite close to the curb. Apex had the only incident of the day when Phoenix cut the chute turn too tight and hit the inside hay bales. Driver and Buggy are reported to be fine.

As mentioned, not too much to say about this weekend’s Buggy adventures. Hopefully this coming weekend will grace us with some warmer weather and more teams out on the course!
