Test day was fun on Saturday
it looked stormy but no rain developed.
despite the potential for soap opera like antics, everyone played nice
ZE had 2 cars on track, a flock of wheels, and some new wheel fairings. They showed some significant speed. They ran out of lane 1 and lane 3 typically running their cars head to head. Their "B" car gave the record holder a good run and bested it in a few heats (depending on lane and wheel). As expected they are the car to beat.
Cleen Sheet/ Sigmu Nu Racing had 2 cars on track. The "a" car (blue pontoon) and a rough "B" car that was put together at the last minute. They ran out of lane 2.
The B car was faster than we expected and when given the good wheels, set a team record with a time that would have condended for 2nd last year (times were only given to the nearest .01 not the .001 used on race day). In race form, it could be a contender. There are a host of things that can be improved on it so it will be a busy 3 weeks btween now and raceday. Thanks to dan Troyer for helping put that car together.
The Blue car was not fully rece prepped and ran on par with our expectations, matching our 09 race times on our "b" wheels. It never got a taste of the good wheels due to some mechanical issues with the brakes that delayed the test plan. It also did not help that a wheel swap on that car takes a long time (not designed for rapid changes). We did manage to sort out a few of the questions we had about setting up the car so we met our major goal. While it would have been nice to see what would happen if we threw down a fast run, we stuck to the test plan and should benefit from that on raceday. If we project the delta between the good wheels and the "B" wheels from the "B" car, and apply that to the blue car we sould be knocking on the record. Add in some race prep and we could be very quick.
Troyer had a few good runs and should be in good form on raceday.
A new car made by Al Garen(sp?) was seen sporting the little wheels I developed and sold to WARGO last year. They never got down the track in anger due to steering issues.
The american girl car was there running some shaved xootrs and a few of ZE's urethane wheels. Good but not great speed. Nice looking car though.
