I didn't like this DQ either. I thought that Pika was more at fault. Pika was behind SDC at the top of the hill and should not have tried to take the normal line that is tight to the inside corner. She did and bumped. (making an assumption that she saw the driver while rounding hill 2 turn). SDC just took the normal line. Seems like they got the wrong org.
I think there are way too many DQs. Sneeze and get DQ'd. What if we had time penalties instead?
5 seconds for advantage violations (pacing, 6 second rule, false starts, pusher over transition, etc...)
10 seconds for obstruction violations (stepping into buggy lane on back hills, bumping other buggies, etc...)
DQ for safety violations only (missing pushbar at end, failed drop tests, failed safety at end, etc...)
Teams in the top tier (sub 2:10) can make second day with a single violation
Teams in the middle tier (2:10-2:15) can make second day with an advantage violation
Might make all this DQ business a little more palatable.
