First off, thanks to Andrew for posting your thoughts and reasoning here. It is appreciated.
With regards to the DQ:
No one here is questioning FMB's determination that the LP tank was in an unsafe place, and no one is blaming Sweepstakes for being met with a fire safety concern and making the decision they felt was right, as tough a call as it was.
What is paramount here is that there was no intent to break the rules by SDC, and SDC was not trying to create a competitive advantage by bringing it out. They were simply doing something nice for their pushers. Many teams and Sweepstakes have used them at rolls, and LP tanks are commonplace items, at millions of households across the country. While I know that this does not create proper grounds for them to outright assume that it would be acceptable to place it where they did on Raceday, it is simple to see how that could be overlooked given all the other pressures and responsibilities they had on Raceday. I know I didn't get home from Raceday and get rid of my propane grill. I fired it up and cooked a steak.
In light of the circumstances, I surely hope for the sake of SDC and of the sport that the 15 month DQ is dropped.
edit: I want to make it clear that I am not trying to make light of the situation. Obviously everyone's safety is the number 1 priority.
