Nov 2: The organizations got through the roll order exactly 4 times with no major issues on the longest day of freerolls in the Fall.

Rolling Orgs: Spirit (1 buggy), KDR (1 buggy), SAE (1 buggy), AEPi (2 buggies), Sig Nu (2 buggies), PiKA (3 buggies), SDC (4 buggies), Pioneers (1 buggy), Fringe (4 buggies), PhiKap (2 buggies), SigEp (2 buggies: Pandora and the new buggy built this past Spring), and CIA (2 buggies: Firebird and Conquest)
Not rolling: Beta

SDC had the Flip video splint on their buggies again. This time it went around the course twice on Addiction‘s inner side facing forward. (Now there’s a video I’d like to see on youtube.) For the second two rolls, the camera was mounted on Psychosis and faced back and upward at the pushers.

Pioneers is finally out at rolls and rolling Chaos.

Note: Addendum added 11/03/08, 09:15 EST

Spirit started rolls almost at the scheduled start time of rolls. (There was a slight delay as flaggers made their way to Chute to cover Beta’s chore.) KDR and SAE scratched before AEPi came up to the plate. There were no other scratches for the day.

CIA‘s Firebird dropped her pushbar, but then couldn’t get it to come back up and lock into place on hill 3.

At about 8 am, Sweepstakes was approached by a person trying to get movie filming equipment onto Flagstaff Hill. “We’ll only take 30 minutes to unload our stuff and then be out of there.” Originally, they thought we had something to do with the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and roads would be closed all day. Andrew finally convinced them that we stopped at 9 am and needed them OFF the roads until then. As a compromise, rolls were paused while the van and jeep were allowed buggy-ward from the Start line down the freeroll section and onto Flagstaff Hill. The cars pulled off onto the sidewalk opposite the Phipps main entrance and stayed there. (I commend SigEp for yelling about cars on the course, even if it was reported on the Chairmen’s radios ahead of time by Andrew.)

Both SigEp and Spirit have started running Hill 1.

A SigEp pusher had an epic fail on hill three – he tried to run along on the inside of the final chute turn, and then realized there wasn’t enough room for him there – about half a second before he tripped over the buggy. He avoided landing on it, but then got clocked on the head by the pushbar. He still managed to continue pushing though.

KDR also had an epic fail. At the start of their roll, the follow car starts blasting the Pirates of the Caribbean score ( with windows down, so all observers can clearly hear it ). When they come to hill three, there is no hill three pusher. So both the passenger and the driver of the car race out of the car, leaving the doors open, and both start trying to push the buggy at once, with the now defeaning sountrack playing along. The hill 3 pusher then shows up, and starts to follow the people pushing the buggy, until someone screams, “WHAT ABOUT THE CAR?” So the hill 3 pusher runs back, and jumps in the car and drives off.

One of PiKA‘s buggies took a line very close to the outer hay bales. It was close enough that the radio club person reported a near-miss.

Big thanks to AitonG for observations from the Chute.

Addendum from carsenkline:

  • PiKA was rolling Zeus. Brimstone had the day off.
  • KDR and CIA both had sharp turns at their chute flags and ended up getting air on the grate by the gazebo.
  • Fringe had the fastest freeroll of the day according to one source. Both Fringe and PiKA were rolling out to 6+ windows.
  • PhiKap rolled Svengali and Celerity Schadenfreude.
  • SigEp’s newer buggy’s name is Messiah.
  • Fringe is still rolling Brazen, as well as Banyan, Blizzard, and Bristol. Bantam suffered damage last weekend and was not out.
