Hopefully you got an e-mail last night announcing the Buggy Alumni Association’s plans for our first raceday.  If you’d like to be sure to receive future announcements like this, make sure you register on this site.

Lead Truck Auction
Bid on your chance to ride in the lead truck to view the action from a perspective never available before. We’re currently planning on running a silent auction to auction off one space in the lead car for each heat. The auction will take place starting April 14th – the day after heat selections. Check out http://cmubuggy.org/Auction for details.
Partnering with cmuTV
cmuTV is eager to provide the best coverage they can on raceday, and they realized the best way to do that is to have buggy experts on the air with them. Andy Bordick (PiKA ’94) and Mark Estes (SN ’87) will be on the air during the races broadcasting from the top of hill 2 and live from the chute. We’re also helping to collect historical footage cmuTV can use in the time between heats. In addition, we’re working with cmuTV and WRCT to make sure the cmuTV audio is being played in the chute for everyone to hear.Raceday Reception
Friday, April 17, 11:00 AM, Skibo Gym lawn (behind the leaderboard) Immediately following the preliminary races on Friday, the Buggy Alumni Association will host a reception for all dues-paying members. Share old stories, reconnect with old friends, and talk about the action from prelims while you chow down on food and drink.
History of Buggy
Friday, April 17, 1:00 PM, Giant Eagle Auditorium (in the new wing of Baker Hall) Tom Wood’s (PiKA ’74) now famous, and ever changing, History of Buggy presentation will follow the Buggy Alumni Association reception. More than just a simple retelling of the last 80+ years of buggy, it’s an in-depth look at where buggy has been and how it became what it is today. Packed with pictures, movies, and some of the greatest buggy stories you’ll ever hear.
Raceday Guides
Following all the action is tough if you haven’t been around in a while. The BAA will be distributing complimentary guides packed with information on raceday to help you get the most out of your trip to the course.
Buggy Book CDs
Buggy books are a great snapshot of buggy, preserving memories of the entire year in one place. As part of our mission to preserve buggy history, we’ve been working hard to scan every single buggy book. We’re approaching the end of the project, so we’ll be making a Buggy Book CD available at Carnival.

As you can see, we’ve got a lot planned for Carnival this year. But if you become a dues-paying member now, there will be even more! All dues-paying members will receive the following:
* Members-only raceday preview (by e-mail) This in-depth coverage of the current state of the buggy world will get you back in the loop just in time to get the most out of raceday. To be sent to all dues-paying members on truck weekend.
* Admission to the Raceday Reception as mentioned above
* Post-raceday wrap-up (by e-mail) Coverage of the races by folks that have been there. We’ll break down performances by each team and cover all of the action

Join today by visiting http://cmubuggy.org/Join

Dues are only $10, and they support all of the Buggy Alumni Association’s efforts to

* Preserve and make accessible the history of the sport
* Provide a channel by which alumni can remain connected to and support the sport
* Support and improve undergraduate participation
* Improve relations and raise interest in the greater Pittsburgh community
* Unite alumni across organizations

Thanks, and we hope to see you out on the hills!
