We had some light rain in the middle of rolls, though, not enough to scratch for the rest of the day. There were only a handful of drops on my reporting notebook (yes, physical notes to ensure my complete thoughts cannot be used to train a buggy AI to replace me). The teams were quite efficient with the time they had, getting through the rolls order 5 times; however, afternoon rains on Saturday was enough to cancel rolls for Sunday.

Team

Saturday

Apex

Solaris, Molotov, Scorch

CIA

Starling, Emperor, Goldfinch

Fringe

Bermuda, Baltic

Robobuggy

Short Circuit, NAND

SDC

Paranoia, Lust

Spirit

Seraph, Inviscid

Photos: Saturday (Upload)

The passing of time and fresh students in the sport always begs the question, what has changed about buggy? This weekend, they definitely seemed like they were easing more in to rolls than many of the other teams. They had more bags on for more rolls than most other teams, and their rollups certainly suffered for it, getting some deep Hill 3 pickups mid-chute. Overall, I think it’s probably a smart move for them to have their drivers get more reps to reacclimate instead of jumping right into top speed and risking a stop — slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

Lust getting picked up on the back hills

Spirit — I think Spirit is definitely coming to the start of the year ready to go. While that doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, that in combination with getting onto the road before they are clear shows a significant improvement in their preparedness.
