{"id":329,"date":"2009-03-29T14:46:01","date_gmt":"2009-03-29T19:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cmubuggy.org\/News\/?p=329"},"modified":"2023-09-03T17:15:37","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T22:15:37","slug":"rolls-report-328","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmubuggy.org\/news\/2009\/03\/rolls-report-328\/","title":{"rendered":"Rolls Report 3\/28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m guessing a lot of people went to sleep thinking that rolls would be canceled Saturday morning, but Sweepstakes found a way to make it happen.\u00a0 The light rain didn&#8217;t stop until around midnight, but the roads were only a little damp by 7am.\u00a0 Orgs were required to bag buggies their first time through the roll order to keep speeds down to a safe level while things continued to dry.\u00a0 Safety conscious Pioneers skipped their first 2 times in the roll order while CIA scratched for the entire day.\u00a0 The slower speeds with the bags seemed to confuse some drivers, as buggies were consistently turning earlier and sharper than usual at the Chute flag during the early rolls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Observations<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/cmubuggy.smugmug.com\/2009-2010\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\">check out the full gallery from Saturday here<\/a>)<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-nBqFV2s\/0\/e43299d2\/O\/Chimera08-RD09.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-sMm9ZZV\/0\/d62c5846\/Th\/DSC_0082-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-hg5BMTn\/0\/ba85877b\/Th\/DSC_0034-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/> PiKA builds Chimera the 2nd.\u00a0 Why wouldn&#8217;t you want two of the buggy that you set the course record with?\u00a0 Incremental change is almost too generous of a characterization for a buggy that (when painted) will be indistinguishable from last year&#8217;s model to almost everyone.\u00a0 If you want to split hairs, it looks like the new buggy&#8217;s fairings are larger than Chimera&#8217;s, coming up right to (or even over) the windshield line.\n<ul style=\"clear: right;\">\n<li>With the realization that Spirit&#8217;s new buggy is actually just the return of Fuko, this bring us back up to 7 new buggies for the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-zc5wbDM\/0\/2384bb40\/Th\/DSC_0202-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Beta finally made it out for the first time this year with Problem Child.\u00a0 They got 4 rolls in and looked like they had their act together pretty well considering their extended hiatus from the sport. \u00a0The driver is taking a wide line from Transition Flag to Chute flag, but is smart enough not to turn back towards the Chute flag.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-FdwrQxs\/0\/cbadee13\/Th\/DSC_0134-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>cmuTV was out filming from a lead truck with two cameras, one hand-held and one on bed-mounted tripod.\u00a0 SDC, KDR, and Fringe allowed the truck to lead their first buggy down the hill on various rolls throughout the day. They are collecting footage to air between heats for the raceday broadcast.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-B3pRrxr\/0\/acd84307\/Th\/DSC_0087-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-cqmJ9pH\/0\/ac9d0380\/Th\/DSC_0207-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>KDR is back out after last week&#8217;s steering failure on the new buggy and a day off for GreekSing celebrations. \u00a0 Polaris was rolling just fine this time out.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-XKthjjh\/0\/4ab30163\/Th\/DSC_0125-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Seraph spins yet again. Spirit&#8217;s Fuko seems to have transferred its curse to Seraph, which has spun on each of the three days since Fuko was brought out.\u00a0 This week it spun quickly through 180 degrees, then continued rolling backwards towards Scaife.\u00a0 The follow car followed slowly and for a moment I thought she might just continue in reverse or attempt another 180 with the e-brake.\u00a0\u00a0 It was allowed to re-roll later in the day with a bag.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-6DtP66R\/0\/efc7a343\/Th\/DSC_0165-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-3sGT4kM\/0\/04bc16b6\/Th\/DSC_0064-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Fringe&#8217;s new buggy is back out with fairings complete but no paint yet.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-vPxZmkp\/0\/75fd08ab\/Th\/DSC_0046-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-LMwqRdx\/0\/4a578bab\/Th\/DSC_0050-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>SDC has their new white poly-u on both their new buggy and psychosis now and skipped the fairings this week.\u00a0 The whitewalls look sharp on the pair of dark toned buggies.\u00a0 Envy lost its rear hatch in the chute.\u00a0 Psychosis lost its left fairing last weekend.\u00a0 Those loss of mass DQ&#8217;s will get ya, better watch out.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-B6W8dfM\/0\/13df2b6e\/Th\/DSC_0159-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>AEPi brought Camo back out, and although I can&#8217;t understand the logic of that move since they now have two solid buggies from the post-war era, it rolled better than ever.\u00a0 The only buggy rolling on soap box derby tires in years and years, it may have actually rolled to window 0 on saturday.\u00a0 If not, it was really close.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-qc5X23J\/0\/f873a199\/Th\/DSC_0147-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"giThumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/2008-2009\/Spring-Rolls-Mar-28\/i-Z7g9FCz\/0\/057355c2\/Th\/DSC_0093-Th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>SigEp&#8217;s new Barracuda looks much better now that it&#8217;s primed, and was rolling pretty well.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\">SigNu skipped the second of four days of rolls so far this spring.\u00a0 They have usually been one of the more reliable orgs in terms of attendance.<\/li>\n<li style=\"clear: right;\">Extra barricades were added to the chute after last week&#8217;s car-on-the-course incident and it seemed like a pretty good solution (presumably together with more attentive folks manning the barricades and a cop with a better explanation of what he&#8217;s supposed to be doing over there at the other side of the bridge).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Times<\/strong> (as usual, ranked by the fastest roll per org):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PiKA &#8211;
