Agreed, that the fate of the team should not be determined by the FM for a safety violation, but the idea that a dangerous condition can exist and there is merely a warning is (pun intended) playing with fire.
Let's put this in perspective: SDC holds the course record in buggy. What good is that record if the event no longer exists?
We risk losing this event all the time. Any serious injury puts the entire 90 year tradition at risk. We can easily minimize these risks by avoiding simple things. A driver in a buggy is completely and utterly defenseless. She has to trust that her organization has looked out for her safety at all times. When we start to look at softballing organizations for actual risks and waiting for corrective actions, we increase our risk.
I, for one, want to watch races in 25 years.
