Nov 8: Rolls canceled due to rain overnight.

Nov 9: AEPi spun and PiKA hit the inner haybales

Rolling Orgs: Spirit (1), AEPi (2: Zephyrus and Camo), SigNu (3), PiKA (3), SDC (4: Rage, Addiction, Psychosis, Envy), Pioneers (1: Chaos?), Fringe (4), SigEp (2), CIA (1: Conquest)
Former Safety Chair John Novak was visiting.

AEPi’s first roll: A car tried to turn right out of the Phipps parking lot.  The car backed off the course as Zephyrus went past.  The car then tried to go up the Phipps sidewalk, turned around, then finally left over the bridge.  Sweepstakes placed a car at the entrance to Phipps to encourage cars to leave by way of the bridge.

SDC: The Flip video camera was mounted on Psychosis’s inner side facing forward.

AEPi’s second roll: Zephyrus took the Chute line too sharply, hit the grate by the start of the inner haybales, was airborne for a brief time, and spun when she landed.  The buggy came to a rest perpendicular to the Chute line at the Stop sign. Radio Club’s Rover pulled her out of the way of oncoming buggies, which was unnecessary as Camo stopped at the first flag and was walked up the course.  The driver was fine.  The driver was extracted and both driver and buggy were transported in the follow car.  The buggy did roll again.

A white skid mark showed Zephyrus’s path in the Chute.

Pioneers and CIA (C-I-oneers, PIA?) rolled together under the pretense that they were conducting Pass Tests.  No passes occurred.

PiKA had the first serious accident of the year.  Melissa continued turning in the Chute and impacted the inner haybales at about 60 degrees from parallel.  (No word if the issue was a skid or mechanical.)  She slid forward in the buggy, hitting her chin, nose, and hand.  CMU EMS was called and she was extracted.  She was shaken by the crash, but her spirit seemed to improve after she was extracted.  She and the PiKA Chair were transported to the hospital in the police car. PiKA accidentally picked up the CMU Paramedic’s bike helmet when they were clearing the scene.

Melissa is also the Sweepstakes Design Chair, and has been an enthusiastic participant in many buggy activities.  Everyone participating in buggy wish her minimal injuries, a speedy recovery, and a resilient spirit.

Although this is taking me forever to type, I just want to say thank you to everyone, you guys have been great! And never fear, it takes more than a crash to keep this driver off the course ;) buggy love, melissa
