Here is the second installment, we introduce to you our next three panelists who will be on stage Friday after the races at 2pm. They will be asked questions by our moderator and then also open for questions from you in the audience. So if you’ve ever wanted to ask a question of someone you see here, be sure to show up!

Below we hear from our more recent panelists as they tell us a bit about themselves. Some of these names you might recognize from recent years and Raceday teams.

Andrew Hundt – Fringe/Sweepstakes ’09

I’m Andrew Hundt. Sweepstakes Chairman 2009 | Head Judge 2010 | Fringe Mechanic 2006, 2007, 2008 | Fringe Pusher 2006, 2007.
I added the first raceday jumbotron as Sweepstakes Chairman in 2009! I also pushed through the most substantial rule changes since the complete rewrite in the 1980s with easier to follow wording and more importantly major safety improvements. Two examples are mouth guards for drivers and double bales on raceday. 2009 was also the first raceday with the BAA and I owe them many thanks!
In fall 2014 I became a PhD student studying robotics at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to that I worked for 4 years at CMU’s National Robotics Engineering Center on robotic tractors for John Deere. My buggy experience changed how I work when designing robots, measuring performance, and working on a team.

EMoss photoEvan Moss – Spirit ’13

After graduating from CMU I became an Engineer at 4moms. While in school, I got into buggy because of the family-atmosphere of Spirit. I pushed hill 4 A team all four years and took over leading workouts my freshman year. Eventually I became known for my workout blog: “Get Big Like Evan”. I went on to become  head mechanic in my sophomore year and then Chairman for my Junior and Senior years. As a Mechanic, I lead the build of Mapambazuko and Kingpin 2. I still spend some time at rolls when I get the chance

Connor HayesConnor Hayes – Apex ~’14

I am Connor Hayes, though most people in the buggy world know me as “the apex guy”.  Early in my freshman year I caught the buggy fever and knew I had to be involved.  My floor at the Rez on 5th was a very close group and we decided to go out on a limb and start our own buggy team, one that would be completely open about the inner workings of our team and buggies.  Being a freshman chairman was incredibly challenging as I had to learn the procedures of buggy on the fly and how to successfully lead.  The two years I was chair was one of the most stress filled and difficult times of my life.  I made countless mistakes along the way but grew immeasurably during this time.  The friends I made and lessons I learned have changed who I am for the better and I am completely thankful for the experience.
Currently I am a student on a leave of absence working full time at an auto shop and restoring a 1980’s BMW.  Had it not been for buggy I would have none of the skills required to pursue this new hobby.  I hope to return to school and finish a degree in mechanical engineering an interest I discovered as well through my time in Apex

  • Joan Griffin says:

Really??? Not a single woman was selected for the panel? I see nothing in the description of Buggy, nor in any of the pictures, that implies this is a male only activity.

    • First of all, who said I was done announcing panelists?!

Second of all, I asked many women to be a part of this panel and only very few of them responded, much less said they were available and willing to take part.

I would love to get more women on the panel next year so if you have any suggestions please let us know!

      • Stop being so agreeable. This website has a serious lack of drama right now, jumping to conclusions and extrapolation to greater gender issues might be the best we get pre-raceday.

          • When the chairmen (chairpersons?) rubber stamp some exemptions for SDC after this weekend, like they always rubber stamp such things, I expect a bit more excitement.

      • Rachel Johnson says:

I want to be a panelisttttt (former assistant chairman of sweepstakes, 2013, sigep driver 2010-2012, sigep mechanic 2011-2012)

  • A safe place for men says:

Back off missy! Buggy is a safe place for sexist men. Here we are free from hatefully being labeled as sexist, juvenile, douche-princes (which we probably are but who wants to hear that all the time?). I mean just look at the buggies. They have giant penis-like protuberances. do you really need a bigger sign that females type are not welcome here ( except the small ones). Oh, wait, i just noticed that Aubrey Higginson, a confirmed panel member appears to be female. crap.
