In 1983, the TV series Evening Magazine (the first US show to introduce the Magazine format to TV says wikipedia) did a feature story on buggy. Buggy Alumni Association member and 2009 Raceday announcer Mark Estes found the clip while reviewing old tapes in preparation for this year’s broadcast and put it online.
We need help from you identifying the people featured in the clip. We’ve posted screen captures of most of the folks here in a new album in the gallery. If you know any of the people, leave a comment on their picture, and help us out by spreading the word to other alumni that might know them. If we get enough good info, we might be able to put together a little retrospective piece for inclusion in this year’s broadcast.

WQED/PBS also did, I believe, a one hour show on Buggy about the same time as this one either 1982 or 1983. If it is not already in the Buggy archives somewhere, I have a copy of it on a VHS video tape if anyone can transfer it.

I believe I just found that footage on Carsen’s 91 disc. If it starts with Dick Cyert speaking rather incoherently (if you drank for every time he said ‘um’ you would be drunk) about CMU being an elitist school, then I have the footage. Footage appears to be from 84 as it has colugo running about 4 inches higher than race day spec wrapped in cardboard. Other great shots include PKA’s dropping pushbar and the rolling ham and sperm combo from Phi Kap (these early reverse trikes never worked the way they should). The early 80s were interesting as everyone was trying to figure out how to deal with the change from 4 wheels to 3.
