General Observations:
- Saturday was warm and teams all got several rolls in, even with a brief pause due to rain in the area. It was enough to qualify almost everyone. (Blueshift and Hydra did not quite get enough rolls in the Spring, and were granted an exemption.) Sunday featured many sprinkles, and the teams did not get all the way through the order before the rain really started and rolls ended. A few incidents to report:
- Saturday road dampness meant some teams had issues passing drops, including SigNu’s Jaeger.
- Spirit had another spin with Inviscid on Saturday, and did not get to complete a roll on Sunday. They started two buggies up the hill and then were stopped by Sweeps because of rain picking up. One of the Hill 1 pushers didn’t react for some seconds, leading to an almost collision at the top of Hill 1.
- Teams were still sharing slots but only to help finish qualification. Later on Saturday, Kingpin made contact with the outside bales, so close that a crash was called out on the radio net and stop flags we thrown for SigEp behind them, leading to Barracuda spinning.
- Several other teams also had some shaky lines. The lack of Spring rolls this year is showing.
- We saw one new buggy with a new paint job- Apex is locking in a sun theme with Helios. Starling sports a sprightly blue/green tape covering, and Paranoia still has an all-black tape covering. We look forward to the Design Comp unveiling!
We also had a team of alumni timing the heats each day.- That data is shared with Sweepstakes to help with Heat Selection. If you are a member, you can see the data, too! It will come in your Raceday preview! https://cmubuggy.org/membership/ to join.
As always, links to upload photos are in this post! Let us know if you do so we can give you credit (DM Barsham or data at cmubuggy dot org).
Thanks to Rob, Ian, Matt, James, Brooklyn, and Connor for help timing this weekend! Send any notes or corrections to me at danbecerra at cmubuggy dot org.
We’ll see you at Carnival! Our homepage has links to all the buggy-related events, and we’ll post the heat schedule and lead truck auction in the upcoming hours.
the cook says:
Kingpin did hit the outer bales at nearly 90 degrees which straightened it back out, continuing on very slowly. The stop flag was alertly and correctly called IMO.
the cook says:
more concisely it tail slid oversteer style and the tail hit the bales. See PiKA C 2008 for similar.
AC says:
Starling’s “paint job” is actually tape! The actual paint job will be revealed on Raceday!
Dan (RR) says:
Updated, Thanks!
