We haven’t had rolls yet this year and this has some teams rightly worried about their raceday. It’s also left us with not much in the way of news for you guys so in lieu of a real rolls report, lets fill you in on what we know has happened and what is coming up for Carnival and Raceday.
2015 – off to the races
It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a post up but it’s time that we get started. Due to the oppressive cold still here in the burgh, the first planned rolls for this weekend have been preemptively cancelled. This will give teams a bit longer to get things organized and hopefully a bit more time to finish up any new buggies that they have been working on. As well as allowing the remaining snow and ice to melt that still litters the course.
Buggy Crash Testing SURG
Now that rolls are hibernating until spring, it’s time to bring back some of the mid-week posts starting with a fun new buggy research project. Apex driver Rachael Schmitt (the same driver that built the wooden buggy B1R with CIA) will be analyzing buggy crashes from previous years and plans to conduct a few tests of her own.
Below is an except from an email that I got from her where she explains a bit more about what she’ll be doing and where she could use some help from the buggy community (i.e. you guys). Continue reading
New Obstacles on the course
Hope you all had a happy Labor day. Because of it, we took the day off from our Monday posts, so now we’re giving you a Tuesday post.
For those of you that have contacts at CMU, you might have already heard about this. Having taken a walk down there myself this weekend, I saw what all the buzz was about. The City has added new bike lanes to Schenley drive which interferes from around the stop sign, all the way past the chute flag. This will be a new obstacle for drivers this year, but fortunately, sweepstakes was notified and instead of the permanent posts that the city was planning on using, they opted for the more expensive removable option placing the difference in price on sweepstakes. Welcome to the 95th year of Buggy!
Hey guys,
Orientation is almost over and classes are about to begin which means that we have a few weeks before the 95th year of buggy rolls! Are you ready? We will be, and we’ll be making a few adjustments to the site for this year.
First off, for any of you freshmen that made your way here, Welcome! We hope you found the “What is Buggy” event informative and we encourage you to look through the Video and gallery sections to help you get an idea of what it’s like to be a part of this amazing sport. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here and our community would be more than happy to answer them for you.
Along those lines, our current forum system has been having some troubles, so we are going to try turning the reddit based Project Zone into our new forum system. If this works well, we’ll keep it there, otherwise we’ll use that until we can fix our current system. We will be freezing the current forum and keep it accessible for anyone that wants to peruse the old conversations.
Lastly, before rolls possibly happen, we are planning our own Globally plaid event that will mimic the design comp panel we had last carnival. The only difference is this time we will be doing it over a google hangout with Buggy people from around the globe. We are still figuring out who all will be involved so if you’re interested in participating, please let us know!
That’s all for now, What are you looking forward to this year?
Congrats Graduates! and other news
Hey Graduates, let me in no way be the first to congratulate you on a job well done! Thanks for a very exciting year and we hope to see you back for all the Carnivals and Homecomings to come. If you missed your opportunity to become a member with our senior deal, shoot us an email at join@cmubuggy.org and we’ll see about getting you a membership. We’ve got a lot of big plans and we want to get started as soon as we can. To make that happen we need your help.

Raceday Previews are being Distributed!
Hey everybody,
It’s that joyous time of year when the Raceday Preview actually comes out for all of our dues paying members. Sadly we know of a few members who have paid dues but we unfortunately do not have their email to send the Raceday Preview to.
If you paid your dues, and didn’t receive your Preview, please email news@cmubuggy.org and we will get it to you as soon as possible!
If you haven’t paid dues, but would like one, please check out cmubuggy.org/join for ways that you can obtain said Preview and email us when you’re done.
Happy reading, and we look forward to seeing you all at the Design Competition in TWO DAYS!
12 HOURS REMAIN!
That’s right, there’s only 12 hours left in the Lead Truck auction. We just broke the $750 barrier which is awesome, but not anywhere close to our best. Remember, share this with anyone and everyone, we don’t want to have anyone realize too late that they could have won a spot in the lead truck!
Also, by this point Truck weekend is over and we here at the BAA are working hard on the Members only preview. The Raceday Preview is still set to come out Monday. We know our lists are incomplete, so if you have paid your dues, but don’t get your preview right away, don’t fret! Just shoot us an email saying when or how you donated (via our site, or by registering for the Luncheon) and we’ll get that preview sent right to you!
