2015 Raceday Preview is HERE!

It’s what you’ve all been waiting for, the 2015 Raceday preview is out and ready for your hungry eyes. Using CMU’s donation tracking list, we have sent out the preview to those people who were ahead of the game. Unfortunately, it seems we’ve been caught in some spam blockers, particularly if you have a cmu email address on file with the Alumni Association. We are working around the issue, so if you know you should be getting one, please be patient.

Those of you that made your contribution more recently were not on our list and we will be sending yours out shortly!  Continue reading

Compubookie 2015

Compubookie is getting lazier and lazier, so lazy that they again missed the print deadline for the Tartan. After a few years of being late, the team at the Tartan doesn’t care and can’t be bothered to do anything with it. We’re not ones to censor buggy related news and he/she/it seems to have toned down a bit this year after last year’s backlash, even though it seems they’ve forgotten that women’s finals now goes to 8 teams, not just 6.

By the way, have you checked out the Lead Truck Auction yet? We’ve only got about 32 hours left in the Auction and there are still a few heats and finals picks that haven’t been bid on so get on it and claim your spot in the lead truck for yourself or a friend!

The Raceday Preview is just about ready for release and it looks like it’ll be our biggest one to date. It’s going to be chock full of interesting and fun articles as well as detailed team descriptions to give you the scoop on what teams have been up to since last raceday. Right now we are checking our membership roster and making sure that you get what you paid for. If you haven’t yet renewed your membership or signed up, there’s still time! Just make sure you let us know and we’ll get it to you as quickly as we can.

If you’re too cheap to get the full preview (really? it’s only $10), we will be sitting down with some recent alums and current students this WEDNESDAY at 7:00PM EST broadcasting our raceday predictions from the WRCT booth in the basement of the UC. Be sure to tune in or stream it live from their site.

Now, without further ado…

Lead Truck Auction Changes for 2015

As we hope you are all excited for, our Annual Lead Truck Auction is back this year and we think it will run smoother than ever! This will probably be one of the more thrilling Racedays in recent history, so you won’t want to miss out on a chance to see the whole race this year.

2015 – off to the races

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a post up but it’s time that we get started. Due to the oppressive cold still here in the burgh, the first planned rolls for this weekend have been preemptively cancelled. This will give teams a bit longer to get things organized and hopefully a bit more time to finish up any new buggies that they have been working on. As well as allowing the remaining snow and ice to melt that still litters the course.

Buggy Crash Testing SURG

Now that rolls are hibernating until spring, it’s time to bring back some of the mid-week posts starting with a fun new buggy research project. Apex driver Rachael Schmitt (the same driver that built the wooden buggy B1R with CIA) will be analyzing buggy crashes from previous years and plans to conduct a few tests of her own.

Below is an except from an email that I got from her where she explains a bit more about what she’ll be doing and where she could use some help from the buggy community (i.e. you guys). Continue reading

New Obstacles on the course

IMG_0207Hope you all had a happy Labor day. Because of it, we took the day off from our Monday posts, so now we’re giving you a Tuesday post.

For those of you that have contacts at CMU, you might have already heard about this. Having taken a walk down there myself this weekend, I saw what all the buzz was about. The City has added new bike lanes to Schenley drive which interferes from around the stop sign, all the way past the chute flag. This will be a new obstacle for drivers this year, but fortunately, sweepstakes was notified and instead of the permanent posts that the city was planning on using, they opted for the more expensive removable option placing the difference in price on sweepstakes.
