Schedule of Events – Carnival 2016

Here’s a quick run-down of all the Buggy things happening this carnival. We can’t wait to see you at all these awesome events!

Our Twitter will be getting frequent updates through the weekend, so if you haven’t yet, be sure to give a follow so you know what’s going on when!

Tuesday

9am ESTTruck Auction Begins

A post with the link will go out Tuesday morning when the Truck Auction goes live. Don’t miss your chance to sit in the Lead Truck and watch the entire Race first-hand. We’ve been working with sweepstakes and we should have the best view yet this year!

Wednesday

8pm-9pm ESTWRCT 88.3 Pre-Raceday Broadcast

Join us on the airwaves as our local group of Buggy fanatics talks through this year’s events and our predictions for Raceday. We’ll be live on 88.3 FM and streaming at wrct.org

11:59pm ESTTruck Auction Ends

At midnight Wednesday, the Truck Auction will end. All winners will be contacted with their winning and further information that you will need on Raceday. Remember to check-in next to the Alumni tent on the day of your heat and fill out your Waivers! You will not be allowed in the Truck without one.

Thursday

12pm-2pmBuggy Showcase

The new format of the Design Competition known as Buggy Showcase will be happening in Weigand Gym. Come by and check out all the new buggies and chat with teams and other alumni. Be sure to put your vote in for the People’s Choice Design Award too!

12:30pmBuggy Timing and Data Collection

At the Showcase Stage, Shafeeq Sinnamohideen will give you the low-down on how data is collected during our weekend rolls and what all those numbers mean!

8pmBAA Social Hour

Join us at Hough’s (533 Greenfield Ave), the only bar in Pittsburgh with a Buggy on the wall. We’ve reserved the lower area by the tap wall so you won’t need to worry about it being too crowded. Remember though, the Greenfield Bridge is currently just a cliff, so you might have to go the long way around.

Friday

8am ESTSweepstakes Prelim Races

Join us on the course and cheer on your favorite team, or listen via WRCT 88.3 or stream it live via cmuTV. Send us pictures of your remote-watch parties wherever you are in the world!

12:30pm-1:30pm – BAA Luncheon

After the races, be sure to stop by our new luncheon location and relax with other alums while grabbing a bite to eat. We’re hoping for another awesome raceday, so we will be outside at the tennis court patio. Rain locaiton is Breed Hall in Margaret Morrison.

1:30pm-2:30BAA Panel

We have an awesome panel of people from across the buggy spectrum including several of our supporting groups lined up to answer your questions and share their experiences. Come by, ask them questions and listen to their stories.

Saturday

9am ESTSweepstakes Finals and Exhibition Races

Join us on the course and cheer on your favorite team, or listen via WRCT 88.3 or stream it live via cmuTV. Send us pictures of your remote-watch parties wherever you are in the world! We’ll be having our SigNu v. PiKA grudge match and possibly some additional ones.

12:15-1pmHistory of Buggy Presentation highlighting the Class of 1991

4:30pmAwards Ceremony

Cheer with your team as the awards are handed out at the Midway tent on the CFA lawn.

Buggy Watch Parties in YOUR AREA!

The BAA is making a push to encourage local alumni groups to host Race Day Watch Parties on the Saturday morning of Carnival as a way of bringing the buggy alumni community closer together, generating a spark that leads to a more cohesive community across the country!
Are you interested in seeing Watch Party come to your city? Help us push forward the plan to host simultaneous alumni gatherings throughout major cities on the day of the Finals. For each city, we will need one person to take the lead in either securing a location or arranging for a viewing at someone’s home. Contact Jillian Brinberg at jrbrinberg (at) gmail.com if this piques your interest, you want to take part in it, you have any questions, or you’d like to talk through some of your own ideas!

A word from our Head Raceday Preview Editor

And now a word from Aileen:

Hello BAA members! It’s almost the best time of the year – Spring Carnival time! Every year we publish a detailed Raceday Preview. This year, we’re looking for new input – do you have exciting insider information? Opinions about new wheels, aerodynamics, or other buggy trends? A list of complaints about how things used to be better? We would love any and all new articles, or help with existing article ideas including team season recaps and interviews with key buggy personnel. If you’re interested in getting involved with the Raceday preview, contact Aileen at aileen@cmubuggy.org.

Remember to renew your membership TODAY if you would like to get your preview as soon as it’s available. http://cmubuggy.org/membership

ONE Month to Raceday! We Want New Voices!

Calling all buggy people!

Friday Buggy Panel

With Carnival only a few short weeks away, we would like to invite anyone and everyone to come to our second Raceday Buggy Panel! We will be holding it at the same time as last year, but likely in a new location (more details on that later). We had a wonderful group of panelists last year and we would love to have some new voices on the panel this year. We are looking for both students and alumni to join the panel to give us a wide range of ideas and experiences to share with anyone that attends.

Wednesday WRCT broadcast

Continuing on, we will be having our Wednesday night broadcast on WRCT before the races to give you a live discussion of what to look out for while you’re at the races or watching from home. We are looking for some current students or local alums to join us in the booth and talk all things buggy from this year!

If you are interested in being a part of the Friday Panel or the WRCT broadcast, please contact Ben Matzke (ben.matzke@cmubuggy.org) and let him know that you’re available!

Midsemester Break – No Rolls but some News

With not enough teams to meet quorum, buggy took a break for the long weekend of the midsemester. With nothing to report on, we’ve been looking for something to share with you guys. Given our current struggle with membership tracking, we know there are some of you that didn’t get our most recent publication. So, until we figure out our tracking issue, everyone who reads this can get their own copy. Just send an email to news@cmubuggy.org, no donation required. If you’re feeling generous however, we of course wouldn’t say no.

Enjoy!

Ceilidh is Upon Us

Welcome folks to another Ceilidh celebration here at the Pittsburgh Campus of CMU! For us Buggy people, this weekend is more or less business as usual. The weather looks like it will hold and the teams are ready for another full weekend of rolls. This time though, Ceilidh will bring some added bonuses.

Quick look of Ceilidh Buggy Events:
Rolls Donut Tent 7am Sat+Sun Frew Street
Buggy Panel Talk 2pm Sat Connan Roon

While Ceilidh hasn’t really become a major alumni event for us, it is a time when we will have the most parents in town to see just what the hell their kids are up to. We’ll be welcoming and greeting any visitors to the course with a mini version of our Raceday Donut tent. We will likely be setting up in a similar place or closer to top of the hill. Donuts will be arriving at 7 so all teams will get a chance to grab one before rolls really get going.

Aside from rolls, we have put together a small panel of students and alums who will be sharing their experience and answering questions from the audience Saturday afternoon. This is just like the panels that we started having the last couple years, and is the first time we are doing one at Ceilidh. We’re expecting a much different audience and early numbers make it look like it’ll be VERY well attended! We will be going for an hour and a half starting at 2pm.

Given the celebration we will be attempting to livestream all weekend. Allowing you to watch and potentially interact during rolls and the panel from anywhere in the world. It’s been a while since we’ve livestreamed so forgive us if our skills aren’t up to snuff.

As an added bonus to all of our members, whether you are in town or not, you will be getting a special gift later tonight. Of course if you think you should be on the list and don’t hear from us, just let us know and we’ll correct things right away. If you’re not a member yet, head on over to the membership page and join or renew, this is one you won’t want to miss this one.
