2022 Lead Truck Auction Details – PRELIM AUCTION CLOSED

This auction has closed. Look forward to our finals auction after prelims.

The BAA is once again holding our lead truck auction this year!  It’s the one chance you (or a, parent, a spouse, a friend, or any buggy fanatic in your life) have of being right in the middle of the action on Raceday. You’ll sit in the back of the lead truck for whatever race(s) you can win!  Proceeds help with all the costs of putting on such a spectacular Raceday, including the BAA’s sponsorship and various broadcast and other improvements.

The auction will go live on Monday at Noon ET.  Most things are the same as 2019 (and a description of how it works is below), but with one main change – the auction for the Prelims Heats and the auction for the Finals Heats will be two separate online auctions. The auction for Prelims Heats will open Monday at Noon ET and close Wednesday at 8pm ET. The auction for Finals Heats will be much shorter – it will open after Finals Heats are selected on Friday afternoon, and will close at the end of the Buggy100 Buggy Bash on Friday at 9pm ET. Come join your fellow buggy alumni at the Buggy Bash to share your Raceday experiences, enjoy some refreshments, play some trivia, win prizes, and more! The Buggy Bash begins at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, and requires advanced registration. More details will be posted to cmubuggy.org.

But don’t worry – if you’re at the Buggy Bash and you want to participate in the auction, the auction site is mobile-friendly and we’ll have plenty of reminders throughout the night. And unlike the past couple of years, the Finals Auction is being held online, not in person. So you do not have to attend the Buggy Bash in order to participate in the auction.

Homecoming weekend and Mini Raceday events

We’re excited to be back in person and see your familiar faces out on the course! We have several Homecoming Weekend events and activities planned:

FANTASY BUGGY

Overview:

This year at Mini Raceday we will be testing your skills to see who can be the best chairperson! It’s time to prove you can build the best buggy team by participating in Fantasy Buggy. So, how does it work? The BAA will be timing each Hill time and free roll during rolls on Saturday November 6th. You will build your team of 1 Buggy and Hills 1-5 to aim for the best time. Your score will be an aggregate of your selected team. If you’re in town and interested in helping with timing, reach out to willyclark97@gmail.com.

Using this link, you will be able to fill out your team and compete to win a Buggy Prize Pack. Submissions are free, but if you’d like to donate to the BAA we won’t say no ?

Timeline:

  • Fri Oct 29, 11:59pm: Game open to entries at this link
  • Fri Nov 5, 11:59pm: All entries must be in
  • Sat Nov 6, 7:30-9:00am: Homecoming rolls and times collected
  • Sun Nov 7: Winner is announced and we will contact you for the best way to receive your prize

Rules:

  • A “Team” will consist of 5 hills and 1 buggy
  • Score to be calculated by best hill times of the day + org’s best free roll time of the day
  • Each entry will be allowed to submit an alternate in the case that the org is a scratch or choose to not run the hill on that day (i.e., PiKA chooses to start at hill 2 so the alternate will be used for hill 1 time)
  • Each org may only be represented once in the starting line up and once in the alternate line up (i.e., if you choose SDC for the Buggy, you CANNOT choose SDC for any of the Hills)
  • All submissions that do not meet the rule requirements will not be eligible for the prize

BAR MEET UP

Friday Nov 5th, 8:00 pm at Fuel and Fuddle

Some BAA Officers will be meeting up for drinks and to talk buggy at Fuel and Fuddle Friday night ahead of Mini Raceday. If so inclined, come down, say hello, share your favorite buggy story, and brag about why your Fantasy Buggy team will be the best.

COFFEE AT THE COURSE OR ONLINE

Saturday No 6th, 7:30 am on the Course and virtually at cmubuggy.org/live

The BAA will have coffee and donuts available for anyone coming out to see rolls. Come by to say hello, and enjoy coffee and a donut on us!

New BAA Subcommittees for 2021

New this year, the BAA is rolling out subcommittees to help us tackle our goals quickly and generate new ideas. Each subcommittee will be made up of BAA board members as well as alumni and current students. All groups are currently looking for new members so please contact the emails below if you are interested! Each subcommittee will set its own meeting schedule, but meetings will likely be held on a monthly basis. Many of the subcommittees will share information on our Discord server, which you can join at cmubuggy.org/chat. Additionally, our BAA discord is always a great place to hear from other members and share ideas and memories!

April Showers Bring…May Raceday

We’ve made it to (Mini-)Raceday!  COVID has dealt a number of blows to Buggy over the past year, but Sweepstakes worked incredibly hard to get buggies back on the course this Spring and now it’s time to crown a champion.

For the first time in 50 years, Raceday returns to its roots; the month of May. We’ll be live-streaming Mini-Raceday on both Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, beginning at ~6:15AM ET.  You can watch along at http://tinyurl.com/BuggyLive2021, and of course, the Discord is always open for alumni and students to watch and talk together (and based on past experience, there might even be additional camera angles).

BAA Call for Nominations, Election Year 2022

Hi everyone, it’s getting to be that time of year again! We are looking to elect several new people to officer positions, including President, Reporting Officer, and Webmaster. You can read about the positions in the nomination form here. If you’d like to hear more or get in touch with the current officer in the position, feel free to reach out on our Discord or send an email to admin at cmubuggy.org! I’d like to thank everyone for their amazing work in putting together BAA events and community in the face of all the challenges over the past year, and I’m overjoyed to see the return of rolls (and rolls reports!) these past weekends.

Also a big thanks to those in the community who have contributed to committee meetings, our social events (Among Us!) and mentorship resources — if you have any interest in being formally recognized for your work, feel free to nominate yourself for an officer position. And if you have an idea for a project that needs a new one, or just want to jump in and help out, feel free to reach out any time. We couldn’t do it without you!
